Background
I am a fully qualified and practicing Equine Sports Massage Therapist graduating from Hartpury University with a degree in Equine Sciences (BSc.), and subsequently completed a diploma in Equine Sports Massage at the Institute of Complementary Animal Therapy (Dip. ICAT), obtaining a Distinction Grade.
Having grown up with horses from a very early age, and having a family who are also competing and working within the equine industry this was the natural career path for me to choose. I keep my own horses and regularly attend local competitions, clubs and clinics.
Experience
I have a wealth of experience working within the equestrian industry. After Graduating from Hartpury University, I worked on a Top International Dressage Yard, working mainly with stallions & young stock. I then progressed to yard manager, working on a thoroughbred stud yard. My day to day tasks involved managing the daily needs of the horses, specialising in producing young race horses for bloodstock sales and preparing them for their training career. My passion for working with horses progressed during my time in the above roles and I began to take more interest specifically in equine rehabilitation.
Some of the newly trained horses would come back to the stud for respite and would often require rehabilitation for injuries obtained on the track. As yard manager, I worked closely with practitioners and physiotherapists, following their aftercare advice. My interest in this aspect of horse care grew and I decided I wanted to pursue a career as an equine therapist.
Career as a therapist (so far..)
Since qualifying as an Equine Sports Massage Therapist with the ICAT I have never looked back! Having started out my career as an Equine Sports Massage therapist as “Muley Equine Sports Massage” and initially a director of the family company Muley Equine (see link below), the relocation of the main family business to Welshpool has led to a change in a name and I have based myself here in South Wales where my client base has thrived.
My career so far has allowed me to work with horses ranging from elderly companions to top competition horses. I have also worked on horses suffering from conditions such as navicular disease, arthritis, ligament injuries and muscle myopathy working in alongside veterinarians and following their diagnosis closely sending them treatment reports for their records.
I am lucky enough to have a regular clientele competing at high levels in the showing and dressage spheres. My clients are all very supportive, and most will contact to tell me how pleased they are with the improvements they have seen following my treatments, please take a look at my testimonials page or the reviews on my Facebook page.
Diversification
I enjoy continually developing my skills and have found a couple of additional activities which compliment my main services as an Equine Sports Massage therapist.
An activity which has proved extremely popular is my Painted Horse Demonstrations. I have held a number of these over the last 12 months ranging from local livery yards to Pony/Riding Clubs. For more information on the Painted Demos please see the link above, a big thank you to Sue’s Saddle Club for having me as part of her pony camps, please visit her Facebook page linked below for more information.
